No arrests made in sobriety checkpoint


CUMBERLAND, Md. - A two-hour sobriety checkpoint was held in Cumberland late Friday and early Saturday with no arrests made, according to Maryland State Police.

During the 11 p.m. to 1:15 a.m. checkpoint, 170 cars were checked. No drivers were pulled to the side for additional field sobriety tests, police said.

The checkpoint was on Md. 36, south of U.S. 40. Twelve state troopers worked the checkpoint, in cooperation with the Maryland State Highway Administration.




Man charged with DUI after cyclist hit


SHARPSBURG - A Sharpsburg man was charged Saturday with being involved in a hit-and-run accident and driving under the influence of alcohol after a bicyclist was struck, according to Maryland State Police records.

Daniel Renner, 45, was being held at the Washington County Detention Center on $20,000 bond, according to jail information.

Renner allegedly struck a cyclist at Main and Mechanic streets in Sharpsburg, police said. The cyclist was treated at the scene, but refused to be taken to a hospital.
