Hagerstown man faces drug charges

FREDERICK, Md. - A Hagerstown man was arrested on federal drug charges in Frederick, Thursday, the Frederick Police Department said.

Altimont M. Wilks, 33, of 36 N. Potomac St., was charged with possession of and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, wear/transport handgun on person, wear/transport handgun in vehicle, felon in possession of a handgun, possession of body armor by individual convicted of drug trafficking offense, possession of body armor by individual convicted of a crime of violence and possession of a firearm with a removed serial number, police said.

Police said Wilks was taken into custody during a traffic stop at about 6:04 p.m. on North Court and West Second streets, after it was confirmed that he was wanted on a federal warrant. Police allege a loaded revolver, large quantity of cocaine, bullet-proof vest and about $1,000 in cash were among the items found during a search of his vehicle.

Taxi driver robbed at gunpoint by woman

A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint in downtown Hagerstown Thursday by a woman he picked up in Maugansville, the Hagerstown Police Department said.

Police said the woman, who was in the front passenger seat, pointed a handgun at the driver about 5 p.m., and stole his cellular phone, radio microphone and $80. Police said no one was taken into custody in the incident by late Thursday.

Police said the driver drove the woman from the Sheetz store in Maugansville to the rear of 501 E. Washington St., where he was robbed.

Police described the robber as a tall white woman with a thin build and short, blonde hair.

Waynesboro Police say call was a scam

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro Police say a woman claiming to be a representative of the Pennsylvania Retirement Office called a Waynesboro resident Wednesday asking for her checking account number.

The woman resident called the state office and was told the call was a scam, according to a Waynesboro Police news release.

DVDplayer, bike reported stolen

The following were reported to the Hagerstown Police Department:

· At 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a Samsung DVD player and two VHS tapes were reported stolen from the 1000 block of East Noland Drive.

· A Rand Miami bicycle was reported found at 12:40 a.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Salem Avenue.

· Domestic violence was reported at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of George Street.

· A theft/forgery was reported at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday in the first block of East Franklin Street.

Charger, generator are reported stolen

A battery charger and a generator were reported stolen at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday from DNR Mineral Services, 16125E Business Parkway, west of Hagerstown, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The items were worth $700, police said.
