While most riding lawn mowers have 10- to 25-horsepower engines, many pull competitors "soup 'em up so they get at least 75, 80 horsepower out of 'em," Lowry said.
The show's antique tractor pull will be open to vintage tractors in two categories: stock class 1965 and older (3,000 to 8,500 pounds); and open class (6,500 and 9,500 pounds). Youngsters can participate in a kids' pedal tractor race and pedal pull, Lowry said.
But it's not all about tractors.
The show also will include a flea market, craft vendors, wagon rides, children's games and a bake auction. Members of the Tri-State Farm Toy Club will display their wares. And visitors can check out a working saw mill, stone crusher and thresher.
Valley Concessions and the Downsville Ruritan will sell food.
A pedal tractor and $950 in cash prizes will be raffled during the show, with a good portion of the proceeds benefiting the club's $500 scholarship fund for a local student studying agriculture in college, Lowry said.
Remaining proceeds will help cover current show costs and expenses for a national tractor show that the local club will host in 2007.
