Grocery store to be part of development

A 65-acre development under construction on the northeast side of Boonsboro will include the largest grocery store in town, Boonsboro Town Manager John Kendall said.

James Draper, one of the owners of the Fletchers Grove development, would not identify the grocery store company but said the store would be at least 40,000 square feet.

That would make it larger than any other grocery store in town, Kendall said.

The goal is for the grocery store to be open by next summer, Draper said. There will be stores adjacent to the grocery store, he said.

Draper said plans call for the 65-acre development at Md. 68 and Alt. U.S. 40 to have 90 single-family units and 80 town houses.

The entire development will be built over the next four years, he said. The first phase of homes, which includes 64 single-family homes on 22 acres, will be available for sale this fall, he said.

Construction is under way, he said.

Draper, a Frederick, Md., accountant, said the other property owners did not want to be identified.

Ausherman Homes of Frederick, Md., will be responsible for selling the homes, Draper said.

Construction on the project began on July 1, he said.
