Area Roundup - Former Hub new coach at Garrett

August 24, 2004

McHENRY, Md. - North Hagerstown graduate Eric Hallenbeck has been named head baseball coach at Garrett College, succeeding Lee Bradley.

Hallenbeck will also assume the duties of admissions recruiter for the Lakers. He joins Garrett College after spending the past eight years assisting Frostburg State University's baseball program and directing baseball camps and recruiting efforts.

"Leaving a program where I've spent so long was tough but going to a program with the tradition of Garrett College made it an easy choice," Hallenbeck said.

Hallenbeck's coaching career began in 1993 as an assistant for the Brunswick American Legion team. He then began a new Legion team in Boonsboro, where he coached until 1997.

He takes over a program that went 20-20 last year and was the Region XX runnerup. He'll inherit nine returning sophomores and a large freshman class.
