KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Thursday, Aug. 26, 9 to 11 p.m., show barn at Jefferson County Fairgrounds, about three miles west of Charles Town, W.Va. Participants purchase "deeds" at $10 each, for a chance to win $1,000. Each cow chip "deed" represents a 2-foot square parcel of the playing field (324 2-foot square parcels maximum). A cow will be brought to center field and will be left to roam the field until she does her "duty." Judges will determine which parcel is the winner. Deeds may be purchased at the Jefferson County American Red Cross booth at the Jefferson County Fair during the week of Aug. 22. Cedar Ridge Ride Through History
WILLIAMSPORT - Fourth annual motorcycle and bicycle ride, Saturday, Aug. 28, register 6 a.m., riders leave between 6:30 and 9 a.m., Cedar Ridge Boys' Home, 12146 Cedar Ridge Road, off U.S. 40 west of Hagerstown Speedway. Bicyclists and motorcyclists will participate in a 100-mile ride through historic Washington County. Registration is $35 on the day of the event ($45 with passenger) and includes lunch, snack/water stops, door prizes, water bottle, souvenir photo and pie ala mode at the end of the ride. Antique, classic, sports cars or street rods may register for a short ride and show at a cost of $15, which includes door prizes, dessert, dash plaques and souvenir photo. Proceeds benefit the home.
