Stress and homeopathy


BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Miranda Castro will talk about stress and homeopathy from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Inspirations Cafe & Bakery, 174 N. Washington St.

Castro will summarize how homeopaths view and deal with stress. There will be a time for questions during and after the lecture.

The lecture is sponsored by Berkeley Springs Homeopathy Study Group. Refreshments will be served.

Heart-healing workshop


Healing the Heart of Illness, a free community workshop, will be held at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Robinwood Medical Center, community conference room suite 102 at 11110 Medical Campus Road in Hagerstown.

Robert Bastress will lead the workshop. Workshop participants will learn simple and natural ways to care for the body, and a simple practice to heal the heart. The workshop is sponsored by The Center for Integrative Medicine.

Caregivers' conference


A caregivers' conference designed to benefit the mind, body and spirit will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Robinwood Medical Conference Center, Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown.

Washington County Hospital, in partnership with Hospice of Washington County Inc. and Washington County CARES, will sponsor the annual conference to help family and friends in the role of caregivers.

Attendees will learn of care methods, communicating with a physician, managing behavioral problems and accessing community resources. Caregivers also will be instructed how to care for themselves.

Dr. Michael Carrick, national medical director for Somerford Assisted Living, will be the keynote speaker. Local health care clinicians, financial and legal advisers will present other information.

Vendors and help desks also will be available.

Caregivers attending the conference will receive lunch, brief massages, hand waxing and a chance to hear music by clarinetist Reginald Rice.

Respite care and transportation is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Prostate cancer screening


FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick Memorial Healthcare System, Frederick County Health Department and the American Cancer Society will sponsor a free prostate cancer screening event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, at Frederick Memorial Hospital Wellness Center at Francis Scott Key Mall.

Adult fitness classes


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks and Recreation is holding registration for 2004 fall adult fitness classes. The classes are designed for various levels of fitness. The session begins Monday, Sept. 27.
