Grier 10th in Futures

QUEENSTOWN, Md. - Hagerstown's Ashley Grier finished Friday's first round in a tie for 10th place in the Hunters Oaks Golf Classic on the Futures Tour.

Playing on the 6,370-yard, par-72 Hunters Oak Golf Club course, Grier opened with a 2-under 34 on the front nine and went to 3-under through 13 holes before suffering a bogey on 14 and three-putt bogeys on 15 and 17 to finish at even par.

She was six shots off the lead, held by Smriti Mehra, of Calcutta, India.

"I played very well off the tee and had fun today," said Grier, who will leave for college studies at the University of Central Florida immediately after Sunday's tournament conclusion.

Grier tees off at 1:42 today in a threesome with Erica Blasberg, of Corona, Calif., and Bernadette Luse, of Orlando, Fla. Blasberg is a former NCAA women's player of the year.
