SHARPSBURG - The deadline for candidates to file to run for Sharpsburg's mayoral post or one of the two Town Council seats up for grabs is Oct. 12, Town Clerk Anna Jamison said Thursday.

The town election is Nov. 16. The polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition to the mayoral post, the seats held by council members J.W. Eichelberger and Jeffery Saylor are up for election.

Candidates must be at least 25 years old, have lived in town for a year before the election and cannot be a convicted felon, Jamison said.

Jamison said no one had filed to run for the offices as of Thursday afternoon.

Oct. 12 also is the last day for town residents to register to vote in the town election, Jamison said.

Residents who registered to vote through the Washington County Board of Elections do not need to register in town to vote in the town election, Jamison said.

To register to vote, people must be at least 18 years old and have lived in town for at least 30 days prior to the election.

Residents who want to file for candidacy or register to vote can go to Town Hall between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays or Thursdays, or call Jamison at home at 301-432-6572.
