CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - From livestock exhibits to live entertainment, the 52nd annual Jefferson County Fair offers attractions and activities for the entire family.

The weeklong event at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds near Charles Town draws as many as 35,000 visitors, said Locke Wysong, publicity committee member.

"It's still family-oriented; it's still volunteer-run; and it still holds, after 52 years, its roots of agriculture and community," Wysong said.

The fair's truck and tractor pulls, demolition derby, musical entertainment and carnival are among its most popular attractions, he said. The Kentucky Headhunters will headline the fair's entertainment lineup with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25. Track seats cost $5.

There also will be daily judging, fitting and showing of goats, sheep, cattle, poultry and other animals, horse shows, children's pedal pulls, slow tractor races, performances by local school bands, threshing demonstrations, pie-eating, greased pig and other contests, magic shows, fireworks, chicken barbecues and car displays.
