HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - A girl was hit by a pickup truck while trying to cross W.Va. 9 outside Hedgesville Friday afternoon, but her condition could not be confirmed.

West Virginia State Police Trooper Z.L. Nine said the girl was transferred from City Hospital to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Nine said the girl is about 10 years old. He said he did not want to give her name.

The girl and her brother were crossing W.Va. 9 from a ROCS gas station near the General Motors access road, Nine said.

"He made it and she got hit," he said.

Nine did not charge the driver of the pickup truck and would not release his name.

"To me, it wasn't really his fault," Nine said. "He was coming around in a vehicle and she was there."

Medical personnel from the Berkeley County Ambulance Authority responded.

The collision happened around 4 p.m.
