MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Only leaves on the most forward-looking trees are starting to colorize into autumn hues, but Martinsburg City Council members discussed Halloween at their meeting Wednesday night.

Council members briefly discussed whether to have trick-or-treating on Oct. 31, which this year is a Sunday.

Police Chief Ted Anderson recommended that trick-or-treating not be held on a different night because that is confusing to parents.

Council members voted 5-0 to have trick-or-treating from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.

On a related note, Anderson said that in Martinsburg and across the nation the number of kids begging for candy has been declining each year.

He suggested Council members form a committee to consider organizing some alternate activity for children for Halloween.
