Applicants sought for planning boards

August 11, 2004

The City of Hagerstown is accepting applications for vacancies on two city planning boards.

The openings are on the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Preservation Design District Commission.

The Board of Zoning Appeals has an opening for one regular board member and one alternate, who would fill in when a regular member is absent.

The Board of Zoning Appeals hears applications for special land-use permits, variances and appeals of decisions made by the zoning administrator. It meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m.

There is one opening on the preservation commission.

Applicants must be city residents and have experience or training in one of the following fields: real estate, history, archaeology, anthropology, curation, conservation, landscape architecture or urban design.

The preservation commission reviews applications to perform work on the exterior of buildings in the city's historic districts.

The commission meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 4:30 p.m.
