Party honors service of mayor, councilman

CLEAR SPRING - When Monday night's town meeting broke up, everyone moved over to the social hall where a surprise party was awaiting the town's two new members of the Maryland Municipal League Hall of Fame.

Maryland Del. LeRoy E. Myers Jr., R-Allegany/Washington, presented a house resolution to Paul Hose Jr., Clear Spring's mayor, and to Gary Grove, council member, for their more than 20 years of service each to the town.

Vice Mayor Julianna Albowicz, who also represents U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., in her Western Maryland office, handed over the Maryland Municipal League certificates awarded at the municipal league's June convention in Ocean City.

"We can't thank you enough for your service to Clear Spring all these years," Albowicz said.

Resident working on July 4 plans

CLEAR SPRING - Although Independence Day 2005 is nearly 11 months away, Margaret Cornett wants to get moving on plans for a town-sponsored July 4 activity now.

"Whatever we have might be quite simple the first year but we need to get started somewhere," Cornett said. "I'm reaching out for ideas."

A longtime town resident and retired teacher, Cornett attends nearly every town meeting.

Cornett said she already has Lori Divelbliss interested in serving on a committee. Monday night she sought participation from at least one council member.

Vice Mayor Julianna Albowicz said she would serve and agreed to meet to help set up tentative plans for the event.

Already suggested for the holiday are a town picnic, music from area country and gospel singing groups and possibly fireworks.

Anyone with suggestions or who wishes to volunteer to organize the July 4 project may contact Cornett at 301-842-2869.
