MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Berkeley County sheriff's deputies are seeking the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident Friday night that killed a pedestrian.

Police identified the pedestrian as Anthony E. Moser, 29, of 273 Berkeley Station Road in Martinsburg. He was found lying on Winchester Avenue near the intersection with Lawn Street around 11:30 p.m., police said.

Emergency medical personnel said Moser was dead when they arrived at the scene, police said. Winchester Avenue was closed to traffic for an hour and a half, police said.

A suspect vehicle was described as a red Ford, but it is unknown if it was a car or truck, police said.

Police said they are looking for witnesses to the accident.

A woman who identified herself as Moser's wife said the couple did data entry work for government contractors.

She said she didn't know why her husband was in the area where he was killed. She said she last saw him earlier in the evening in the opposite end of town.

The couple have been married for six years and have been together for more than 11 years. They have two children, ages 10 and 7 months, she said.

Further details about the accident were not available Saturday.
