Post 211 stays alive

LEGION BASEBALL



FREDERICK, Md. - Funkstown Post 211 stayed alive in the Legion State Tournament on Saturday with bats that produced just enough to hold off Pasadena.

When the dust settled, Funkstown had posted a 17-13 victory to move into action today at 10 a.m. against either Salisbury or Garrett.

Funkstown jumped to a 15-4 lead after 3 1/2 innings and then held on as Pasadena scored nine runs in the last three innings.

Tim Kellinger led Funkstown with two hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer in the third inning.

Bryson Appel added two hits and three RBI and Kyle Robinson had two hits and two RBI.

Marty Kaetzel, Philip Powell and Drew Crawford each had two hits and Josh Bussard added a solo home run in the eighth inning for Funkstown (33-12).

Josh Bowers recorded his eighth win of the year.




JUNIOR LEGION



Berkeley advances to Williams & Shook semifinal


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Berkeley Post 14 beat Wesmor 7-3 and edged Morgantown Post 2 7-6 to earn a spot in the semifinal of the Hamstead Williams & Shook Invitational Tournament this morning at 11.

Justin Everhart homered and drove in three runs to lead Berkeley (23-21) in the first game. Brian Collins and Justin Combs each had two hits and Brad Mason drove in two runs.

Against Morgantown, Logan Clark and Brad Mason each had two hits, while Justin Everhart doubled and drove in three runs.




YOUTH LEAGUES



Valley 7-8 Tournament


Valley Blue 5, Conococheague 3: John Michael Rinehart tripled and Austin Stone had a three-run home run for Valley Blue. Connor Renn had two hits for Conococheague.

Hancock 15, Sharpsburg 4: Hancock's Chad Sipe had two hits, including a home run and five RBI, Tanner Manning had two hits, including a home run, and four RBI, while Jordan Clingerman and Tristan Douglas each had two hits for Hancock. Brady Cole, Adam McDonald and Ashton Binkley each had two hits for Sharpsburg.

Halfway 13, Valley White 12: Casie Files had two hits and drove in the game-winning run to lead Halfway. Nick Sauble had three hits, while Bobby Brennan and Austin Loar each added two in the win. Brennan drove in four runs and Loar two. Bryce Reeder had three hits and three RBI and Jeremiah Younker and Dillan Durning each had two hits for Valley White.

Halfway 13, Pen Mar 11: Nick Sauble had two hits and drove in two runs to lead Halfway. Austin Loar, Bobby Brennan and Geraghty Showe also drove in two runs each in the win. Tim Ingram had two hits for Pen Mar.
