July 30, 2004

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Hagerstown Suns snapped a two-game skid while extending the Charleston Alley Cats' losing streak to six with a 3-2 win Thursday night.

The Suns (12-22, 40-61) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on Tim Hutting's RBI single and went up 3-0 in the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs against Charleston starter Brad Mumma (2-3), Johany Abreu delivered an RBI single to make it 2-0. Pat Dobson then hit into a double play, allowing the Suns' third run to score.

Suns starter Juan Serrato (7-6) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth. After hitting Clint Johnston with a pitch to force in a run with one out, he escaped more trouble with a strikeout and groundout.

Serrato (7-6) went five innings, allowing three hits and five walks while striking out six in the win. Charleston (17-17, 58-46) cut its deficit to 3-2 in the seventh with an unearned run against reliever Jesse Floyd.
