Merwyn L. Cunningham, 57


NOV. 30, 1946-JULY 24, 2004

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Merwyn L. Cunningham, 57, of 9294 Garnes Road, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 30, 1946, in Sewickley, Pa., he was the son of Wilma C. Crowe Cunningham of Greencastle, Pa., and the late Harvey E. Cunningham.

He was a 1964 graduate of Chambersburg (Pa.) Area Senior High School and received an associate's degree from Williamsport (Pa.) Area Community College in heavy equipment operation.

He was employed by World Kitchen of Greencastle as a journey person plant maintenance mechanic after completing an apprentice program.

He attended My Father's House Ministries in McConnellsburg, Pa.

He was a member of Greencastle Sportsman's Association; National Rifle Association; and United Steelworkers Union Local 1024, Pittsburgh.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joyce D. Austin Cunningham, whom he married Sept. 9, 1967; two daughters, Sheri A. Cunningham of Harrisburg, Pa., and Teresa M. Cunningham of Sharpsburg; two brothers, Doran R. Cunningham of Richland, Wash., and Delvyn L. Cunningham of Dillsburg, Pa.; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle. Pastor William Chilcotte and the Rev. Rodney Richesson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Claude A. Batdorff, 90


JUNE 10, 1914-JULY 24, 2004

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Claude A. Batdorff, 90, of 742 W. Dutch Corner Road, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born June 10, 1914, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of the later Harvey A. and Rebecca DeShong Batdorff.

He worked at Martin/Marietta as a quarry maintenance person.

He is survived by his wife, Rosella V. Peck Batdorff, whom he married Dec. 24, 1949; one daughter, Sharon M. Sowers of McConnellsburg; one sister, Janet Grove of Williamsport; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Julia Bard, and four brothers, William Batdorff, Ernest Batdorff, Edward Batdorff and Wayne Batdorff.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg. Pastor Denver Plessinger will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the funeral home.




Leann E. Wingert, 19


FEB. 3, 1985-JULY 23, 2004

BIGLERVILLE, Pa. - Leann E. Wingert, 19, of 2630 G Shippensburg Road, died Friday, July 23, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident in Adams County, Pa.

Born Feb. 3, 1985, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Ricky L. and Kimberly Disney Wingert of Biglerville.

She was a 2003 graduate of Biglerville High School and a recent graduate of Thomson Institute in Chambersburg. She was enrolled to study at Harrisburg (Pa.) Area Community College in the fall.

She worked in the deli at Giant Supermarkets in Chambersburg and Shippensburg, Pa.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Cody J. Wingert of Biglerville; paternal grandparents, E. Lee and Shirley Wingert of Orrstown, Pa.; and boyfriend, Raymond Bartges of Shippensburg.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Jack and Alfaretta Disney.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. The family also will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Goldie M. Stouffer, 90

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Goldie M. Stouffer, 90, of 789 Anthony Highway, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center, Chambersburg.

Born April 1, 1914, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late James Irvin Ulrich and Nettie Roseann West Ulrich.

Her husband, Oren E. Stouffer, died Oct. 17, 1999.

She was employed as a presser by the former Stanley Clothing Co. of Chambersburg, retiring in 1974.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Albrecht of Chambersburg; four sisters, Helen Heiter of Reading, Pa., Dorothy J. McNew of Fayetteville, Pa., and Delores McNew and Darlene Varner, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Harold Ulrich of Fayetteville; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Baughman, and two brothers, Charles Ulrich and David Ulrich.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Revs. George S. Mouer Sr., Richard E. Sigler and William H. Harter will officiate. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
