WILLIAMSPORT - A 5-year-old boy was struck by a van Friday as he rode his Big Wheels down a driveway across the street from his grandparents' home at 10757 Appletree Lane, Washington County Sheriff's deputies said.

Zachary Campbell of Sharpsburg was taken to Washington County Hospital by personnel from the Williamsport Volunteer Ambulance Service shortly after the 5:04 p.m. incident. He was treated at the hospital and later released, according to a nursing supervisor.

"He had some bumps and bruises and a head injury," Deputy First Class Michael Palladino said at the scene.

Investigating the incident with Palladino is Deputy John Witmer, who said while his investigation is continuing, it was apparent that Brent L. Mosemann, 24, of Greencastle, Pa., was unable to avoid hitting the child because his view was blocked by three vehicles parked along Appletree Lane at the driveway.
