William B. Potter, 81


JUNE 29, 1923-JULY 22, 2004

William Barnett "Bill" Potter, 81, of 28 Laurel St. in Hagerstown, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at his home.

Born June 29, 1923, in Irwin, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Martha Barnett Potter.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Magdaline Potter.

He retired from the City of Hagerstown after 32 years of employment, serving as superintendent of streets from 1959 to 1974.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by his wife, Lois M. Potter; nieces, including Betty Lou Alexander of Hagerstown; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John E. Potter II.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert E. Morey will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, with graveside military honors by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Prayers will be recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Phyllis I. Barnes, 88


MAY 21, 1916-JULY 23, 2004

FUNKSTOWN - Phyllis Irene Barnes, 88, formerly of 23 W. Baltimore St., died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Holly Place in Hagerstown, where she was a resident.

Born May 21, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena May Kline Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wilson Barnes, in 1994.

She was the owner and operator of the Funkstown Tavern.

She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Bykota Sunday school class.

She was a member and past president of Funkstown American Legion Post 211 Auxiliary, a member of 40 & 8 and past president of Last Women's Club.

She is survived by one niece, Betty M. Wolfe of Hagerstown; one grandnephew; and five great-grandnieces.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Mechling, and two brothers, Roy F. Miller and Chester A. Miller.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Wesley G. Scouten will officiate. Burial will be in Funkstown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.




Gary D. Hull, 57


JULY 21, 1947-JULY 22, 2004

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Gary D. "G.D." Hull, 57, of 3589 Guilford Springs Road, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born July 21, 1947, in St. Thomas, Pa., he was the son of the late Wilbur and Ruth Anna Mills Hull.

He had been employed by Valley Quarries for 35 years, most recently as a heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of Landis-McCleaf Detachment Marine Corps League, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 and Loyal Order of Moose 842.

He is survived by two sisters, Donna Leidig and Shirley Hull, both of Chambersburg; five brothers, Wilbur Hull Jr., James Hull Sr. and Robert Hull, all of Chambersburg, Thomas Hull of St. Thomas, and his twin brother, Larry Hull of Camp Hill, Pa.; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Charles Tolbert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul S. Ebersole, 77

CLEAR SPRING - Paul Samuel Ebersole, 77, of 13548 Cresspond Road, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 26, 1926, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry L. Ebersole and Rosetta M. Wadel Ebersole.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lorraine Ebersole, in 1997.

He had been a driver for Washington County Commuter.

He is survived by one daughter, Saundra Rouzer of Mercersburg, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Nancy L. Buford of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Vicki Baker of Hagerstown; one son, Paul R. Ebersole of Hagerstown; one stepson, Melvin E. Ebersole of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Frances M. Ramer of Chambersburg, Pa., and Mary C. Martin of Hagerstown; two brothers, Adin R. Ebersole of Chambersburg, and Norman D. Ebersole of Neshkoro, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Pastors Stephen Fretz and Nelson Martin will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
