Conococheague 50 is Saturday

July 23, 2004

The Hagerstown Speedway will be the site of the 23rd annual Conococheague 50 on Saturday night as America's top late model drivers square off in the 50-lap event, with $10,000 going to the winner.

Sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the Conococheague 50 promises to be a night of stock car racing at its best. Joining the late models will be the pure stocks in a special 20-lap event.

One Outlaws drivers who is a favorite for the Conococheague 50 is Rick Eckert, of York, Pa., winner of the Outlaws' first visit in April for the Stanley Schetrompf Memorial. Eckert is fourth in the Outlaws points, has 15 career wins at Hagerstown and will be looking for his first Conococheague 50 win.

Scott Bloomquist, of Mooresburg, Tenn., is the Outlaws points leader.

All 12 'Dirty Dozen' drivers are expected to be at Hagerstown. In addition to Eckert and Bloomquist, Steve Francis, Dale McDowell, Bart Hartman, Chub Frank, Mike Balzano, Clint Smith, Billy Moyer, Dan Schlieper, Darrell Lanigan and Rick Aukland will be ready to tackle the local drivers. Aukland is the only Outlaws driver out of the top 12 in points.
