Classes begin Aug. 25

The first day of school for students in Washington County Public Schools is Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Roxanne Ober, vice president of the Washington County Board of Education, said during Tuesday's meeting that she has been receiving many calls from parents asking when students will return to school.

Teachers start their year Aug. 19, according to board documents.

Parent praises board

A parent of a Fountaindale Elementary School student, speaking at Tuesday's Washington County Board of Education meeting, gave the board a "heartfelt thank you."

Joyce Kirsch said she has been pleased with programs and improvements that have been made at the school.

"You should be commended," she said. Her daughter is going into fifth grade at the school, she said.

Board Vice President Roxanne Ober said it is rare, but great, that parents make positive comments at board meetings.
