Bartlett to schedule Open Door meetings


WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-6th, will hold a series of Open Doors throughout the 6th Congressional District during the first week of August.

Locally, he will hold an Open Door Monday, Aug. 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the 6th District Congressional Office at 11377 Robinwood Drive in Hagers- town.

To comply with the Privacy Act, Open Door meetings with individual constituents are confidential and are not open to the media.

Appointments are encouraged. Constituents may schedule appointments by calling toll-free, 1-888-863-4581 or by calling 301-797-6043.

Avalon Manor to host Alzheimers program


The Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland Chapter Western Maryland Region and Avalon Manor Health Care Center will present "Understanding the Dementia Journey" Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Longmeadow Dining Hall at Avalon Manor Health Care Center on Marsh Pike in Hagerstown.

This hour-long program is designed to help family members and caregivers coping with this disease to understand it.

The program is free for the family members of Avalon's residents, as well as for individuals from the community.

Sharrett Subaru to hold Armstrong event


Sharrett Subaru, Subaru of America and Hub City Sports will team up with the Lance Armstrong Foundation to celebrate Sharrett Subaru/Lance Armstrong Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sharrett Subaru, 1333 Dual Highway in Hagerstown.

Participants are asked to bring their own bikes and helmets for cycling events for all ages. Participants in the cycling events will have a chance to win cycling-related gear and accessories.

The event will include food vendors and activities for all ages, including a raffle, moon bounce, balloons and face painting for youngsters. The Health Department will conduct helmet safety checks.

Organizers say all proceeds from the day of family fun will go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation to help support its efforts to raise awareness about health policy issues facing people living with cancer and their loved ones.
