Construction is nearing completion on a senior citizens housing project near Robinwood Drive, the project manager said Wednesday.

The Francis Murphy Apartments near Hagerstown Community College is in the midst of the second phase of its construction, said Jerry Bucey, the project manager with Interfaith Housing Alliance of Frederick, Md.

The first phase of 64 apartments was finished in 2002, and the second phase of 56 units began last summer and is expected to finish this August, Bucey said.

Bucey said people will begin moving into the Rosebank Way development by the end of this month, and he expects the new apartments to be filled by the end of August.

Rent is subsidized at the housing complex, which is for residents 62 or older. To live there, residents must earn less than 60 percent of the area median income, Bucey said.

Bucey said the total project has cost about $12 million, with each phase costing about $6 million. The Hagerstown Housing Authority operates the complex.
