Work on bridge set to begin Monday

July 18, 2004

K&K Painting Inc. will begin cleaning and repainting the underside of the South Prospect Street Bridge over West Antietam Street beginning Monday at 7 a.m.

West Antietam Street will be closed to all traffic on either side of the bridge to permit the contractor to set up cleaning and painting equipment in the street, according to the city.

Local traffic will have access to the businesses and alleys on West Antietam Street on either side of the bridge work zone. All other traffic will be detoured around the construction site on other city streets.

The road closure and detour will remain in effect for the duration of the work, which is expected to last until approximately Aug. 6.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the bridge work zone from Monday through Wednesday.

Beginning Thursday, the contractor will attempt to keep one lane under the bridge open for emergency vehicles only. All other traffic will continue to be detoured around the work zone.
