Donald Emner May, 78, of 419 Fairmeadows Blvd., Hagerstown, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born Aug. 9, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ralph E. May and Clara Sox May.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence M. May, in 1979.

He was employed by C&P Telephone, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of Halfway Lions Club, Masonic Lodge of Hagerstown and Ali Ghan Shriners of Cumberland, Md.

He is survived by one son, Todd E. May of Hagerstown; one sister, Marion Holtry of Chambersburg, Pa.; three brothers, Lloyd May of Waynesboro, Pa., Johnny May of Hagerstown and Kenneth May of Greencastle, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Chaplain Josephine Benton will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth M. Houck, 83

NEW GRENADA, Pa. - Ruth Madeline Black Houck, 83, of New Grenada, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 9, 1920, in Dublin Mills, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Abner Black and Sally O'neal Black.

She worked as a mail carrier in the Robertsdale, Pa., area.

She attended Emmanuel Bible Church in Robertsdale.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Carl Leroy Houck; one daughter, Sherrill Snyder of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sons, Larry Houck of New Grenada and Merrill Houck of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Hazel Cutchall of McConnellsburg; one brother, Cloyd P. Black of New Grenada; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Stiver; four brothers, Willis Black, Merrill Black, Delbert Black and Robert Black; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. The Rev. Steve Heaster will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, New Granada.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will open Thursday at 2 p.m.




Frances T. Cole, 77



NOV. 14, 1926-JULY 12, 2004

FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Frances T. Cole, 77, of 5859 Forest Lane, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at her home.

Born Nov. 14, 1926, in Brentwood, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Margaret Wollenburg Bornman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cole, in 1997.

She retired in 1976 from St. John's Day Care in Baltimore, where she was employed as a cook.

She was a member of Carrick United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide Society.

She was a member of Metal Township Volunteer Fire Co.

She is survived by two daughters, Jean Booze of Fort Loudon and Frances C. Brown of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Bornman of Randallstown, Md., and Doris Detorie of Westminster, Md.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Carrick United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael S. Bumgardner will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, Pa., and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Kenneth L. Poffenberger, 63

Kenneth Leroy Poffenberger, 63, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Feb. 9, 1941, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Garrett Hait and Fannie Louise Burger Poffenberger.

He was employed by Antietam Construction in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Goodwill Athletic Club of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Elizabeth Poffenberger; one son, Robert Poffenberger of Hedgesville, W.Va.; five sisters, Betty Beckley of Clear Spring and Ruby Kline, Connie McGowan, Thelma Socks and Tina Brashears, all of Hagerstown; five brothers, Eddie Poffenberger of Keedysville and Wilbur Poffenberger, Gary Poffenberger, Donald Poffenberger and Jeff Poffenberger, all of Hagerstown; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
