Post 211 sweeps Charles Town

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Andy Taylor hit a grand slam and a three-run double for seven RBI Sunday in a 16-6 win in the second game to lift Funkstown Post 202 to doubleheader sweep of Charles Town.

Funkstown took a 3-1 victory in the opener.

Taylor hit his grand slam in Funkstown's five-run first inning and added the bases-loaded double in the seven-run seventh to shut down Charles Town in six innings. Matt Tedrick, who finished with three hits and four RBI, hit a three-run home run in the sixth.

Drew Crawford has three hits whle Bryson Appel and Josh Bowers had two hits each for Funkstown (26-9-1).

In the opener, Crawford hit an RBI double and Bowers added a run-scoring single as Funkstown broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth to win the game.

Marty Kaetzel earned the save in relief of Taylor with three shutout innings while striking out five.


Bowers finished with three hits for Funkstown.

Bruce Terris had two hits for Charles Town.


PONY 13 District Tourney

Hagerstown 'A' 13, Hagerstown 'B' 0: Tyler Stevens had two hits, including a grand slam, to lead Hagerstown A to a win in the championship game of the district tournament. A.J. Jamison homered and Josh Conway added two hits for 'A.' Kyle Stone had two hits for Hagerstown 'B.' Hagerstown 'A' advances to the PONY regional tournament this weekend in Boardman, Ohio.

District 1 11-12 Tourney

American 5, PVAA 4: Billy Springirth homered and winning pitcher Gerald Tonsil had two hits to lead American over PVAA in a losers' bracket game Saturday.

American 10, Oakland 4: Billy Springirth had three hits, including a pair of home runs, and struck out nine as American eliminated Oakland on Friday. Shanan Plunkett homered and Jordan Hatfield had two hits for the winners.
