BOONSBORO - Due to a source's error, an obituary in Sunday's Herald-Mail for William Benjamin Austin, 4, of 7433 Mountain Laurel Road, who died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Washington County Hospital, omitted some information. He is also survived by his paternal great-grandparents, Thomas and Shirley Staub.

Joshua L. Shindle, 21

JULY 10, 1983-JULY 11, 2004

BIG COVE TANNERY, Pa. - Joshua L. Shindle, 21, of 4137 Laurel Ridge Road, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, on Great Cove Road, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born July 10, 1983, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Jeffrey and Tammie Oaks Shindle of Big Cove Tannery.

He was employed by H.B. Mellott Estate.

He was a member of Greencastle (Pa.) Southern Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Clinton E. Shindle of Big Cove Tannery and Wade M. Shindle of McConnellsburg.


Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Ralph Fry will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the funeral home, which will be open Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Raymond C. Sauter Sr., 70

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Raymond C. Sauter Sr., 70, of Falling Waters, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John H. and Gertha M. Daniels Sauter.

He retired from Rohr Industries, where he was a tool maker.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy, where he retired from the reserves with many years of duty.

He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Creager Sauter; three daughters, Kathleen D. Neff, Karen J. Harlan and Joyce A. Turner; two sons, Raymond C. Sauter Jr. and Craig R. Sauter; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Michel and Elsie McDermott, and one brother, John H. Sauter Jr.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. John Cozzoli will officiate.

Lottie V. Rutherford, 90

AUG. 20, 1913-JULY 10, 2004

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Lottie Virginia Rutherford, 90, of Charles Town, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at her home.

Born Aug. 20, 1913, in Shepherdstown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Irene Shell Domer.

Her first husband, Roscoe Garfield Grey, died in 1975, and her second husband, James Rutherford, died in 1996.

She attended Shenandoah Memorial United Methodist Church in Millville, W.Va.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice M. Brown of Ranson, W.Va., and Janice Schroyer, at home; two sons, Garfield Grey of Charles Town and Gary L. Grey of Kearneysville, W.Va.; seven sisters, Annie Shirley, Dollie McDaniel and Ollie Bond, all of Charles Town, and Elizabeth Dick, Virginia Moore, Nellie Snyder and Florence Mauck, all of Martinsburg; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Terry L. Grey, and two brothers, Warren S. Domer and Charles L. Domer.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Pastor Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Patrice M. Kelley

NOV. 6, 1956-JULY 10, 2004

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Patrice Meredith Kelley, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at City Hospital, after a battle with cancer.

Born Nov. 6, 1956, in Takoma Park, Md., she was the daughter of Muriel Fogg of Hedgesville, W.Va., and the late Wendell Fogg.

She graduated in 1975 from Forest Lake Academy, Orlando, Fla.

She was most recently employed by Cracker Barrel.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sons, Walter K. Roesch of California, Md., Jon B. Roesch of Jefferson, Md., and Brian J. Roesch of Rockville, Md.; one sister, Wendy Benton of Hedgesville; and her companion, Randy Barnhart of Martinsburg.

An outdoor open house is planned Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at her home, 2292 Harlan Spring Road, Martinsburg. Friends are welcome to come celebrate her life with her family. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Irene V. Smallwood, 69

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Irene Virginia Smallwood, 69, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at City Hospital.

Born Oct. 5, 1934, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lee and Gladys Painter Covert.

She previously was employed by Bell Atlantic.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Paul J. Smallwood; one son, Timothy W. Smallwood of Martinsburg; two sisters, Mary E. Bennett of Charles Town, W.Va., and Gladys Painter of Berryville, Va.; one brother, Lewis Covert of Charles Town; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Tunis Covert.

Services and burial will be private.
