Theater festival


Contemporary American Theater Festival continues this weekend. This year's plays include "Homeland Security," "Flag Day" and "The Rose of Corazon: A Texas Songplay." Founder's Day


The Town of Sharpsburg celebrates its 241st birthday. Today's events include:

- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Historical exhibits on display at Town Hall.

- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Students in grades 3 to 8 can explore life as a colonial boy or girl at the Sharps Burgh Colonial Kids Camp, Ferry Hill Plantation, Sharpsburg. Registration is required.

- 10 to 11 a.m.: Genealogy lecture by Linda Irvin-Craig on how to research Sharpsburg family roots.

- 11 a.m. to noon: Crystal Brown will offer a history-themed story time for children in kindergarten through third grade at Sharpsburg Library. Register at the town library.

Children's programs


Programs are geared toward children in third through sixth grades, but parents and visitors of all ages are welcome. Programs begin today at 10 a.m. and last about 90 minutes. During wet weather, programs will be canceled.

- Mumma Cemetery Exploration: Children will work in groups with a ranger to investigate the cemetery and tombstones.

- Civil War Soldier: A park ranger will discuss the life and times of a typical Civil War soldier, featuring examples of clothing and equipment and a musket-firing demonstration.

Anniversary concert

Goose Route Dance Festival

Municipal band


Hagerstown Municipal Band celebrates nine decades of performance with a concert featuring Hagerstown Choral Arts Society. Sunday, 8 p.m., Hagerstown City Park, Peter Buys Band Shell. Free.
