Ishikawa's blast fuels Suns victory

July 09, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Travis Ishikawa has had his ups and downs in 2004.

On Thursday, he went upward with a clutch three-run home run in the ninth inning to give the Hagerstown Suns a 4-3 victory over Kannapolis.

Derek Barrows and Brian Munhall led off with back-to-back singles and both moved up a base on a sacrifice by Tim Hutting.

Johanny Abreu was hit to load the bases, but Barrows was picked off third base.

Ishikawa then rapped his homer off Kannapolis' Ehren Wasserman to make a winner out of Sean Martin, who had given up two runs in the bottom of the eighth as the Intimidators broke a 1-1 tie.

Tim Alvarez came on for the Suns to record his 18th save as Hagerstown (5-8) won its second straight game.

Ishikawa, Barrows and Abreu each had two hits for Hagerstown.

Juan Serrato started and went five innings for the Suns, allowing only two hits, but walking five while striking out six.
