GREENCASTLE, Pa. - In a special session Thursday night, the Greencastle-Antrim School Board appointed Daniel J. Fisher to the seat recently vacated by Jill Patterson, who resigned.

Board President Ron Troskoski said Fisher will serve in the position until 2005, and may choose to run for election to finish out the remainder of Patterson's term, which expires in 2007.

Troskoski said that Fisher, the CEO of D.L. Martin in Mercersburg, Pa., has been a resident of the Greencastle-Antrim area for five years.

The board selected him because he is "interested in the school district, is active in athletics with his children, is business-minded and community-minded, and has a 'children first' mentality," Troskoski said.

Fisher's two sons are students at Greencastle-Antrim High School.

Fisher did not attend the meeting.

Troskoski said that Patterson, who moved out of the area, was "a very contributing board member. She served on several committees, including the ad hoc committee for review of athletic policies.

"She did a good job of bringing out different sides of issues during board discussions," he said. "She was an excellent board member; we're going to miss her."
