Smithsburg EMS lists 72 service calls during June

SMITHSBURG - Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to 72 calls for service during June.

The busiest day of the month was Saturday, June 12, when there were eight emergency calls, according to Capt. James Ulrich.

Of the 72 calls for June, eight were to Frederick County, Md., and five went to Franklin County, Pa.

Eight calls were in the Smithsburg town limits and 11 calls were in the Mount Aetna area.

There were seven calls to the Cascade area, and five to the Leitersburg area.

The most common call type was for vehicle accidents, which accounted for 11 responses. A total of 40 patients were transported to Washington County Hospital and another four were taken to Waynesboro Hospital.

Smithsburg EMS has responded to 472 calls this year.

Operations officers take over on July 1

New operations officers took office July 1.

The new officers include Chief Robert Follin, Deputy Chief Rob Snider, Assistant Chief Marcy Lovett, Capt. James Ulrich, 1st Lt. Robert Myerly and 2nd Lt. Jack McKnight.
