July 05, 2004

A Hagerstown man faced multiple charges after leading city police on a chase through the West End Saturday.

Brian Edward Taylor, 42, of 145 S. Locust St., was driving a Ford van on North Walnut Street when a city police officer attempted to stop him for a vehicle violation, according to a release from the Hagerstown Police Department.

The van failed to stop and turned first onto West Church Street, then onto Salem Avenue before attempting to turn onto the southbound ramp of Interstate 81, police said. It then veered back onto Salem Avenue, striking a stopped vehicle, police said.

Police charged Taylor with first- and second-degree assault, possession of marijuana, fleeing and eluding a police officer, driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, negligent driving, aggressive driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, failure to obey a red signal, failure to control speed to avoid a collision and operating a vehicle with tags listed to another vehicle.
