Suns top Crawdads

Jesse Schmidt went 4-for-5 with four RBI and Travis Ishikawa was 3-for-4, leading Hagerstown's 13-hit attack as the Suns topped the Hickory Crawdads 9-2 at Municipal Stadium on Saturday night.

Starting pitcher Juan Serrato (5-4) allowed two runs on four hits over five innings while walking three and striking out five for Hagerstown (3-5, 32-44).

The Suns scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on RBI singles by Ishikawa and Schmidt to take a 3-2 lead, before breaking the game open with a four-run sixth. Timothy Hutting and Johany Abreu each had an RBI single in the rally, which Schmidt capped with a two-run single.

Hagerstown extended its lead to 8-2 in the seventh as Mike Wagner led off with a triple - the Suns' first of two extra-base hits in the game - and scored on Brent Swanson's one-out RBI single.

The Suns added a final run in the eighth. Ishikawa hit a one-out double and scored on Schmidt's fourth single.

Wardell Starling (3-6) took the loss for Hickory (4-5, 43-36), allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Brian Wilson and Sean Martin each pitched two innings of one-hit, shutout relief for Hagerstown while combining for seven strikeouts.
