Patriotic beach party


Family event sponsored by the City of Hagerstown. Music provided by DVK Entertainment; games; prizes. Today, 7 to 10 p.m. Claude M. Potterfield Pool, Frederick Street, Hagerstown. Season pool passes will not be honored. $4 per person; $10 per family with up to five members. Admission discounted $1 per person or $3 per family if dressed in a patriotic, beach-style theme. Nature programs


Cowan's Gap State Park offers a variety of nature programs this weekend. Today - Wildflower walk at 6 p.m., Bat presentation at 8 p.m.; Saturday - Nature bingo at 4 p.m., Pennsylvania black bears at 8:15 p.m.; Sunday - "Making Tracks" at 6 p.m. All programs are free. Salute to Independence


The Maryland Symphony Orchestra's Salute to Independence concert features patriotic music and fireworks. Saturday, 7:30 p.m., concert; fireworks, 9:45 p.m. Antietam National Battlefield, Md. 65, Sharpsburg. No admission charge to the park, but donations accepted. Vehicle access for parking is via Starke Avenue. County Commuter provides shuttle bus service for $1 from the parking lot at National Cemetery on Md. 34 to the concert grounds. Greencastle celebration


Includes a puppet show, singers and musicians, children's parade, most patriotic family contest, magic show and other activities. Car show


Franklin-Fulton Auto Club hosts show of cars, trucks and motorcycles. First-, second- and third-place trophies for each class. No trailered vehicles. Registration Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Battlefield hike


The hike, "Death of a Brigade," focuses on events leading up to the deployment of Confederate Brig. Gen. Thomas Drayton's brigade and loss of troops in the "sunken road" of South Mountain. Meet in the lower end of the parking lot at South Mountain Inn by 2 p.m. Sunday. Hike about one mile to Fox's Gap. Bring water and a snack. Truck and tractor pull


Mountain State Truck and Tractor Pull classes 13,500-pound, stock tractors; 6,200-pound, 4-by-4 street trucks; 6,000-pound, modified classic tractors and other classes.
