Tri-State-area fireworks displays will light up the night to celebrate the stars and stripes for Independence Day.

On Friday, July 2:

  • Boonsboro's annual Independence Day celebration will begin at 6 p.m. at Shafer Memorial Park, just off Main Street, with fireworks slated to start at 9:30 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, July 3.

  • Fireworks will cap off the Hagerstown Suns' game against the Hickory (N.C.) Crawdads at Municipal Stadium, 274 E. Memorial Blvd. Game starts at 7:05 p.m. For more information, call 301-791-6266 or go to www.hagerstownsuns.com on the Web.

  • The Gettysburg (Pa.) Fire Department will host a fireworks display at 11 p.m. at Gettysburg Recreation Park. For more information, call 1-717-334-6274.


On Saturday, July 3:

  • The Waynesboro, Pa., Fourth of July Jubilee will include a five-kilometer race at 8:30 a.m., parade at 10:30 a.m., and a festival with crafts, live music, children's activities and more from noon to 9:30 p.m. Fireworks will wrap up the event at the old East Junior High School fields across from Waynesboro Hospital.   • The Maryland Symphony Orchestra's 19th annual Salute to Independence at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg will feature patriotic music at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks. For more information, see story on page D6.

  • Hagerstown Suns will shoot off more post-game fireworks. Game starts at 7:05 p.m.


On Sunday, July 4:

  • The fireworks display at Fairgrounds Park, 400 N. Mulberry St. in Hagerstown, will begin at 9:30 p.m., with live entertainment starting at 4 p.m. Trolley service from the Ames parking lot off Dual Highway to the fairgrounds will be available from 4 p.m. until the end of the event.   • July Fourth festivities and fireworks will go from 1 to 10 p.m. at War Memorial Park on Tennessee Avenue in Martinsburg, W.Va., and will include live entertainment, children's activities and food. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. For more information, call 1-304-264-4842.

  • The Hagerstown Suns promise a large post-game Independence Day fireworks display. Game starts at 6:45 p.m.

  • Frederick's Fourth of July celebration will include fireworks, four stages of entertainment, food, contests, children's activities and more from noon to 10 p.m. at Baker Park in Frederick, Md. For more information, call 1-301-694-2489.

  • The Independence Day celebration from noon to about 10 p.m. at Chambersburg (Pa.) Memorial Park will feature an antique car show, craft fair, live music, flag retreat, fireworks and more. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, July 10. For more information, call 1-717-261-3275.
