Bail set for Funkstown man in drug case

Washington County District Court Judge Ralph H. France II set bail Tuesday for a Funkstown man arrested on drug charges at $75,000, court records say.

James A. Kriner, 43, of 13 E. Baltimore St., was charged with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance by distributing a controlled dangerous substance and one count each of possession of a large amount of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to deliver and possession of drug administration equipment, records say.

The Washington County Narcotics Task Force alleged that agents who followed Kriner from his home Monday found heroin and crack cocaine in his car during a traffic stop on Alt. U.S. 40 near Poffenberger Road.

Kriner was being held Wednesday at the Washington County Detention Center, a detention center spokesman said.

Assault charges move forward

A Shepherdstown, W.Va., man waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Washington County District Court Judge Ralph H. France II, court records say.

Six charges against Kevin McCampbell, 22, of 2014 Willowdale Drive were forwarded to Washington County Circuit Court, records say.

McCampbell is charged with two counts of first-degree assault and four counts of second-degree assault in a March 2 incident in Sharpsburg, according to records.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department alleged McCampbell was one of three men who fought with a group of high school students who was fishing near Canal Road in Sharpsburg.

Two of the victims were attacked with a flashlight, deputies said.
