Halfway advances to final

OAKLAND, Md. - Henry Gigeous fired a two-hit shutout and added a two-run single in the fourth inning as the Halfway All-Stars rolled past Oakland 11-0 Tuesday to advance to the championship game of the District 1 9-10 Tournament.

Jordan Payne hit a three-run double in the second to give Halfway the early lead and Gigeous took care of the rest.

Halfway will host the championship game Saturday at 6 p.m. against a team to be decided.

Conococheague 10, Maugansville 0: Zachary Lucas pitched a three-hitter, while Wesley Everett and Jordan Palladino each had two hits to lead Conococheague. Tyler Byers had three RBI and Everett added two in the win.

Federal 11, Frostburg 6: Charles Cvijanovich had three hits, while Alijah Benson, Aaron Showe, Austin Holly, Kevin Proctor and Andrew Yacyk added two for Federal. Tyler Whitaker had four hits, Dan Streitbeck had three and Pat Jones added two for Frostburg.

District 1 Junior Tournament

South Mountain 7, Valley 5: Craig Haupt and Eli Beard each had two hits to lead South Mountain. Haupt also drove in three runs. Bobby Smith led Valley with three hits.

Hagerstown PONY League

Elks 14, Redmen 6: Jeremy Smith had four hits and Tim Leather added two, including a home run, and four RBI to lead Elks. T.J. Smith and David Bowen added two hits each in the win. Colin McWilliams homered for Redmen.

UAW 12, Jeter 1: Steve McKimmy had three hits, while Morgan Wright, Adrian Adams, Bryan Parlett and Kyle Cunningham each added two for UAW.


Wash. Co. Co-Ed Softball

Dual Highway Motors 17, Martinsburg All-Star Deaf 11: Rachel Bachtell and Rick Swauger each had three hits for Dual Highway Motors. Bachtell also drove in three runs and Swauger homered.

Bill Baisey Kia 16, Keefer's Lawn Service 11: Donnie Blickenstaff, Mike Green and Bill Green each had three hits, while Kristie Blickenstaff, Dawn Vail and Cindy Barnhart added two for Bill Baisey Kia.

Minnick's Plumbing 21, Arc Of Wash. Co. 8: Kyle Minnick, Jamie Pine, Melissa Hoover and Ralph Minnick each had three hits for Minnick's.

Hub City Softball

Jerry's Sports 30, Eclipse Nite Club 10: Todd Ricker had five hits, while Steve Presgraves, Scott Shupp, Denny Talbert and Jimmy Taylor each added four to lead Jerry's. Ricker and Scottie Slocum each hit two home runs and Presgraves added one in the win.

Crazy Horse 18, Thompson's Gas 17: Shaun Kendle was 5-for-5 with a home run and Bill Durboraw and Jason Pitsnogle had three hits each for Crazy Horse.

Hagerstown Church Softball

Virginia Avenue 22, Christ Lutheran 4: Mike Pickerall had four hits, while Joe Young, Mike Shank, John Kennedy and Caleb Moses each added three for Virginia Avenue. Andy Koontz had two hits for Christ Lutheran.

Valley 22, Grace 6: Mike Trumpower had six hits, Brian Lewis had five, and John Buchanan Jr., Matt Werry and Tim Hose added three for Valley. Eric White had four hits and Brian Allen had three for Grace.

St. James 24, Tri-State 16: Kyle Flook had five hits, while Matt Shann, Eric Hahn each had four to lead St. James. Flook homered twice. Mike Kelbaugh had four hits and Danny Fraker homered for Tri-State.


Funkstown 8, Berkeley 7

FUNKSTOWN - Ronnie Lemon, Kevin Griffin and Justin Everhart each had two hits, but Berkeley Post 14 fell to Funkstown Post 211.

Josh Lebo drove in two runs for Berkeley (13-12) in the loss.

Berkeley 3-10

Tri-County 0-11

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Kevin Griffin pitched a three-hitter to lead Berkeley Post 14 to a win in the opening game of a doubleheader with the Tri-County Cougars on Monday night. Berkeley dropped the second game for a split.

Justin Everhart had two hits and Brad Mason each had two hits in the first game. Everhart also had a two-run single in the sixth inning.

Jesse Simons and Mason led Berkeley with three hits each in the second game. Josh Lebo had two hits and Jesse Miner drove in two runs.
