Dorothy G. Gantt, 82

JULY 21, 1921-JUNE 27, 2004

Dorothy Grace Walters Gantt, 82, of Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport, Md., died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md.

Born July 21, 1921, in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Emma Varner Walters.

She was employed by the Veterans Administration, retiring on Dec. 31, 1978, and formerly was employed by the Treasury Department from 1942 to 1959.

She attended the Chapel at Homewood.

She was a former member of Toastmasters.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Gantt, whom she married on Nov. 22, 1950; two daughters, Linda Maenner of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Charlene Clark of Fredericksburg, Va.; one son, Kevin Gantt of Lexington Park, Md.; grandchildren, Jason Maenner of Hedgesville, W.Va., Melissa Marlette of Bowie, Md., Carol Park of Binghamton, N.Y., Kevin Tyler Gantt of Lexington Park, Md., Corey Clark of Fredericksburg, Va., and Samantha Gantt of Lexington Park, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Marlette and Chloe Marlette, both of Bowie, Md.


Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Reginald Rice will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, Pa.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. (one hour prior to the service).

Rita E. Spigler, 90

Rita Elizabeth Spigler, 90, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown, Md.

Born Feb. 15, 1914, in Burlington, Vt., she was the daughter of the late William Louis and Elizabeth Angela (Bourdeau) Mimeau.

She was the wife of 68 years to the late Oscar William Spigler, who died March 16, 2003.

Rita graduated in 1932 from Cathedral High School in Burlington, Vt.

She owned and operated a day nursery from 1964 through 1977 in Hagerstown.

She was skilled in crocheting, gardening and assembled more than 2,000 rosaries, which were distributed to many countries around the world.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters Sodality and the Democratic Club, all of Hagerstown, Md.

Rita is survived by seven daughters, Mary J. Racine of Maugansville, Md., Joanne O'Brien of San Jose, Calif., Virginia McDonell of Sonora, Calif., Bonivant Thomas of Greensboro, N.C., Victoria Hastings and Patricia Ford, both of Hagerstown, Md., and Catherine Zwarich of Merriam, Kan.; one son, William M. Spigler of Waynesboro, Pa.; one brother, Donald Mimeau; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Vincent Murphy, all of California, 24 grandchildren, more than 35 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Rita was preceded in death by one son, George Robert Spigler and two sisters, Teresa Mimeau and M. Lela Giddings.

A Memorial Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Fr. George A. Limmer shall officiate. The burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, Md.

There will be no viewing.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or to the Alzheimer's Association / Western Maryland Chapter, 5 Public Square Hagerstown, MD 21740.

A second Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Martin's Catholic Church in San Jose, Calif., in two weeks.

The Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Roy A. Shrader, 70

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Roy Alvey Shrader, 70, of Kearneysville, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Saturday, June 26, 2004.

Born Dec. 3, 1933, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roy A. and Elizabeth Anna Diffendafer Shrader.

His wife, Lorrie Marie Shrader, died in 1997.

He is survived by one son, Michael L. Shrader of Kearneysville; three sisters, Margaret J. Lushbaugh, Diane E. Thompson and Thelma E. Newlin, all of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert C. Shrader of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty J. Shrader and Marietta Shrader, and two brothers, Glenn W. Shrader and Harry W. Shrader Sr.

Services and burial will be private.

There will be no viewing.

Martha P. Smith, 81

MARCH 3, 1923-JUNE 27, 2004

INWOOD, W.Va. - Martha Pearl Smith, 81, of Inwood, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at her home.

Born March 3, 1923, in Strafford, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Edward Russell and Grace Meruel Randell Corson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip R. Smith Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Maureen S. Ellis of Kearneysville, W.Va. and Kathleen J. Wells of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Erva M. Corson of Inwood; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Meldean R. Corson.
