Funkstown drops Blue & Gold title game

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - Funkstown Post 211 went 5-1 at the Blue and Gold Tournament to finish second.

Funkstown (19-4) fell 10-2 to Team Canada in the championship game Sunday, after beating Loville (N.Y.) 13-3 earlier in the day.

Against Loville, winning pitcher Kyle Robinson went 2-for-2 with three RBI, while Josh Bowers was 3-for-4 with four RBI, Trevor Cobb was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Bryson Appel went 2-for-2.

Robinson and Nathan Himes each two hits for Funkstown in the championship game.


Williamsport 11-15 Funkstown 6-8

Kyle Kane had a team-high four hits in the first game and added a home run in the second game to lead Williamsport to a doubleheader sweep over Funkstown.


Corey Itnyre had three hits, while Matt Byers, Scott Keeney and Matt Fortese each added two in the opener. Fortese also homered.

In the second game, Derek Hadley had four hits, including a home run, which moved Williamsport over .500 at 9-8. Mike Bodnar had three hits, including a homer and Fortese and Jason Sutherland each had two hits.

Tyler Beard and Justin Weaver led Funkstown with two hits in each game. Weaver and Kent Worthington homered in the first game.

Kenny Remsberg had a three-run triple and Logan Clark and Kevin Griffin each had two hits for Berkeley (12-10).

Saturday, Remsberg tossed a complete-game five-hitter in the first contest, Clark homered and Bradley Barrett had two hits. In the second game, Jesse Simmons had four hits and scored four runs, while Clark, Griffin and Justin Everhart each had two hits. Cody Seibert also scored four runs.

Greencastle 2-1

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - The Brunswick Orioles swept a doubleheader, beating the Greencastle Athletics 13-2 in the first game and 11-1 in six innings in the second.

Juan Guzman pitched a complete-game six-hitter for Brunswick (24-2, 22-2) in the opener, while Wayne Toms, Andy Maught, Kevin Goode, Kyle George and John Mangold each had two hits in the win.

Goode went the distance for the Orioles in the second game, pitching a five-hitter with five strikeouts. He also hit a two-run double, while Gerrad Talkington and Steve Goode each added two hits.

The Orioles play at Jefferson this evening at 6.


District 1 9-10 Tournament

PVAA 7, Federal 6: Kevin Myers had three hits and Aaron Leasure added two for PVAA. Chris Burdick and Aaron Showe had two hits each for Federal.

Clear Spring 20, Sharpsburg 10: Nick Hill had three hits for Clear Spring, while Sam Elwood, Ryan Aaron, Zach Jordan and C.J. Elwood each had two hits.

West End 10, National 9: Eric Martell had three hits and Brandon Hess and Aaron Rowland each two hits for West End. Ryan Butts and Brett Barr each had two hits for National.

District 1 Senior Tournament

Valley 15, Conococheague 0: Justin Shollay fired a one-hitter and Kevin Tyler and Ryan Wilson each had three hits for Valley.

Maugansville 17, Oakland 9: Adam Merrbaugh pitched a four-hitter and had two hits and Tyler Braithwaite had two hits, including a grand slam, for Maugansville. Brett Bloom had two hits, including a homer, and Josh Koontz added two hits in the win. Tim Reams had two hits for Oakland.

Hancock 12, Clear Spring 2: Derek Shives had two hits and tossed a three-hitter and Jeremy Clingerman had two hits for Hancock

American Minor League

Antietam Fire 13, Eagles 10: Kelsey Lawrence and Quielanna Gantt each had two hits to lead Antietam. Trever Fritz had two hits for Eagles.

Goodwill 12, Thompson Concrete 9: Brendon Colbert had two hits for Goodwill.

VFW 14, Kerches BBQ 9: Eric Itnyre homered for Kerches.


Winters charges to win

Marvin Winters, of McConnellsburg, Pa., made a late, four-lap charge to win the 25-lap late model feature at Hagerstown Speedway Saturday night.

Winters posted his 20th career win at Hagerstown and first since July, 2002.

Pete Weaver, of Williamsport, dominated the 20-lap Hoosier Tires late model sportsman feature for his third win of the year. Mike Warrenfeltz raced to victory on the final lap to win his sixth 15-lap pure stock event. Kenny Thomas, of Keedysville, MD., won the 30-lap enduro dash.

Brehm takes flag

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Rick Brehm, of Shermandale, Pa., overcame leader Mike Holly at the white flag to win the Shippensburg 270.

Dustin Shiffield, of Carlisle, Pa., won the 600 race while Tina Ingram won the thunder division race. Josh Sigman, of Carlisle, won the modified lite feature.

Winchester winners

WINCHESTER, Va. - Brad Omps won the late model feature of Winchester Speedway and other victors included Tony Crim, semi lates; Terry Staton, pure stocks; and Mark Diggs, 4-cylinders.
