The Byrkits

Dr. Max and Carol Byrkit celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise, catered banquet at the Fellowship Hall of the Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church. The event was hosted by their children, David and Jo Byrkit, Dr. James and Jacque Byrkit, Mark and Kathy Byrkit and friends. Out of state guests included friends and relatives from Oregon, California, Tennessee, Puerto Rico and Norway.

The program included tributes by family and friends.

Max Byrkit and Carol Skadsheim were married March 25, 1954, at the Wee Kirk of the Heather Chapel at Forest Lawn in Pasadena, Calif.

They received their degrees from Washington Missionary College in Takoma Park, Md., and Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, Calif.

Dr. Byrkit practiced medicine in Williamsport for 42 years and, since retirement, serves as a volunteer at the Community Free Clinic in Hagerstown.

They have 12 grandchildren.

The Carpenters

Mr. and Mrs. George Carpenter Sr. were honored at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party at Williamsport Red Men Club on Saturday, May 22, 2004. The celebration was hosted by their son and his wife, George Jr. and Dawn Carpenter and grandchildren.


George and Phyllis Carpenter were married May 24, 1954, in Frederick, Md.

The Carpenters have one son and three grandchildren.

The Eckstines
John and Betty Eckstine of Hagerstown were honored at a 50th wedding anniversary celebration Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Fairplay Fire Hall. A buffet supper was served to approximately 100 guests.

The Eckstines were married April 17, 1954, by the Rev. Frederick O. Eyster.

Betty Eckstine is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Beckley. She is a farmer's wife.

John Eckstine is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Eckstine. He was a farmer for 36 years and now works at Mid-States Distributors.

They have two children, John Eckstine Jr. and Linda Mireles and two grandchildren.
