Seven vie for W.Va. fire queen title

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - The Berkeley County Fire and Rescue Association Queen Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Tomahawk Elementary School, W.Va. 9 in Hedgesville. This year's pageant is sponsored by Baker Heights Fire Department.

Each of the seven contestants will be escorted by members of the various fire departments. A queen and a princess will be crowned.

Tickets cost $5. Program booklets cost $2 and can be purchased at the door.

The contestants are:

  • Ashley Akers, 17, of Hedgesville, is a student at Hedgesville High School and the daughter of Lona L. Akers.

  • Korinne S. Ashton, 19, of Martinsburg, W.Va., is a student at Wilson College and the daughter of Dona Ashton.

  • Danielle Nicole Cosenza, 17, of Falling Waters, W.Va., is a student at Hedgesville High School and the daughter of Susan and Joe Cosenza.

  • Leslie Anne Hartman, 18, of Martinsburg, is planning to attend Shepherd University this fall. She is the daughter of John and Dawn Huffman.

  • Stacie Michele Pedersen, 15, of Hedgesville, is a student at Hedgesville High School and the daughter of Patrick and Corinne Pedersen.

  • Nicole Sencindiver, 15, of Hedgesville, is a student at Musselman High School and the daughter of Tim and Suzette Sencindiver.

  • Jessica Stickel, 17, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., is a home-schooled student and the daughter of Glen and Beverly Stickel.
