Woman charged with theft from YMCA waives hearing

June 23, 2004

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Fayetteville, Pa., woman charged with the theft of $104,000 from the Chambersburg YMCA over a 3 1/2-year period waived her arraignment Tuesday in Franklin County Court, according to the district attorney's office.

Christal L. Boone, 35, of 825 Knob Hill Road, was charged last month by Chambersburg police with four counts each of theft by deception and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds. She is scheduled for arraignment in county court on Aug. 4, according to the court administrator's office.

Boone worked for the YMCA during a period from 2000 through July 2003, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

David Matthews, the executive director of the YMCA contacted police on Jan. 7 to report that a membership audit had disclosed that a large amount of cash was unaccounted for, police said.

The investigation showed manipulation of daily deposit records and false computer entries were used to disguise the theft of the cash, police said.
