The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday awarded a contract to an architecture firm to design new buildings for the Smithsburg and Boonsboro branches of the Washington County Free Library.
The $158,162.50 contract was awarded to Murphy & Dittenhafer Inc. of Baltimore. The company submitted the lowest of six bids considered responsible and responsive, county Purchasing Agent Karen Luther said.
The price includes design work for both buildings, she said.
Luther said that while the firm is not local, it will use two Hagerstown subcontractors: L.S. Grim Consulting Engineers and Frederick Seibert and Associates Inc.
The mayors of Smithsburg and Boonsboro, along with the director of the library, were on a coordinating committee involved in selecting the firm, Luther said.
