Pickup truck, vehicle collide

MOUNT AIRY, Md. - A Michigan man was treated at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and later released after his vehicle collided with a pickup truck on Friday, officials said.James Lodwick, 81, of Whitmore Lake, Mich., was westbound on Penn Shop Road when he entered the intersection of Md. 80 southwest of Mount Airy and was his vehicle was hit by a pickup truck towing a utility trailer, according a state police press release.

Lodwick had to be extricated from his vehicle by rescue workers because he became trapped inside the overturned vehicle, police said.

Lodwick's wife, Nancy, 81, was a passenger in the car, police said. The press release stated she was taken to Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital, but a hospital spokeswoman said the hospital did not have a record of her being there.

The pickup truck was driven by Romeo Amaya, 27, of Washington, D.C., police said.

The accident investigation is continuing.
