Tim Schuler killed two birds with one pair of sneakers Saturday morning.

Schuler, 41, of Chambersburg, Pa., won both the overall and masters (over-40) titles at the Hagerstown YMCA's Vince Tantillo Memorial 5K. He covered the 3.1-mile tour of the city's North End streets in 15 minutes, 38.7 seconds.

Kevin Geesaman, 28, of Waynesboro, Pa., was the runner-up in 16:05.0; Hagerstown's Chris Pereschuk, 23, finished third in 16:27.3; Clear Spring's Jeff Delauter, 43, was fourth and the second master in 16:42.2; and Jaime Dick, 32, of Williamsport, rounded out the top five in 16:49.5.

Training partners Susan Graham-Gray, 36, of Greencastle, Pa., and Maria Spinnler, 42, of Hagerstown, took control of the women's race early and never were challenged, crossing the finish line together. Graham-Gray (19:04.7) left with the trophy for the overall winner, while Spinnler (19:05.0) took home the masters prize.


Hagerstown's Kay Harrison, 41, was third overall and the second master in 22:49.7. Chambersburg's Marlys Palmer, 57, and Sue Eyer, 42, completed the top five in 22:57.3 and 23:25.8.

Roughly 100 runners finished the race.


Brunswick 13-5, Waynesboro 3-1

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jimmy Jackson earned his fourth win of the season with a four-hitter, striking out six for the Brunswick Orioles in the first game of their doubleheader sweep.

Andy Maught and Steve Goode each homered in the win while Gerrad Talkington and Corey O'Brien each had two hits.

In the second game, Joey Hart pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts, Steve Goode had three hits, Kevin Goode doubled twice and John Mansgold hit a two-run double for Brunswick (20-1).

The Orioles beat the Maryland Redbirds 7-3 on Friday night. John Sechler and Scott Frye combined to strike out 17. O'Brien and Talkington each had two hits while Frye added a two-run double.


Hagerstown PONY League

UAW 13, Redmen 3: Adrian Adams homered and drove in four runs to lead UAW. A.J. Jamison had three hits and Tim Hamilton had two in the win.

Goodwill 7, FOP 6: Drew Williams hit a three-run home run for Goodwill. Cody McCarthy had three hits and Corey Golden added two for FOP.

Eagles 13, Jeter 3: Matt Amalfitano had three hits, while Cody Nelling added two, including a home run, for Eagles. Kyle Hoffman and Daniel Myers added two hits. Tommy Evans and Robbie Soto homered for Jeter.

Hagerstown Colt League

Eagles 5, Goodwill 3: Tyler Braithwaite had two hits for Eagles.

Eagles 11, Goodwill 9: T.J. Cooper had three hits, while Dustin Boward, Braithwaite, Darrin Jackson and Cory Baker each added two for Eagles. Pat Mertz had two hits for Goodwill.

BJ's Custom Creations 13, Goodwill 12: Steve Munson had three hits for BJ's while Joe Acre, Jeremy Martin and Charlie Wise each had two hits. Zach Bucher had two hits for Goodwill.

Senior Interleague

Maugansville Ruritan 11, Mr. Natural's 10: Tyler Braithwaite had two hits and Michael Cline homered to lead Maugansville Ruritan. Ryan Lee had two home runs and Ryan Harbaugh had two hits for Mr. Natural's.

Federal Little League

Exchange 6, Lions 4: Patrick Salvagno pitched a complete game for Exchange. Kevin McCormack had two hits for Lions.

Conococheague Minor League

M&T 11, Yankees 6: Caleb Myers had three hits while Riley Arnone and Jack Kelly had two hits each for M&T. Steve Plessner had two hits for the Yankees.

Maugansville Little League

Maugans Oil 23, Ruritan 13: Brandon Glazer and Mike Braithwaite each had three hits and Ryan Sword added two for Maugans Oil. Dalton Bailey had two hits for Ruritan.

Maugans Oil 11, Brewer's Saab 5: Brandon Glazer had four hits and Ryan Sword and Matt Braithwaite added two each for Maugans Oil.

Maugansville Junior League

Carbaugh's Tree Service 12, Hagerstown Trust 5: Greg Lyman had three hits and struck out eight while Tyler Hornbecker had two hits for Carbaugh's. Colby Fisher had two hits for Hagerstown Trust.

West End Little League

Coca-Cola 10, Stags 7: Dwight Boward had two hits and Sean Koontz homered for Coca-Cola. Greg Miller drove in three runs for Stags.

West End Minor League

St. Lawrence 12, FOP 11: Sterling Rubeck had two hits and four RBI, while Richard Elliott had two hits for St. Lawrence. Steve Turner had two hits and four RBI for FOP.

St. Lawrence 12, FOP 11: Richard Elliott, Brandy Faith, Tyler Williams, Devin Redmond, Sterling Rubeck, Jesse Fath, Evonte Naylor and Robert Richards had two hits each for St. Lawrence. Stevie Turner and Joel Brown had three hits apiece while Aaron Grossman, Brandon McKenzie, Andrew Snodderly, Austin Black, Brady Nutter, Isaiah Merrill and Sierra Ferguson had two hits each for FOP.

Halfway Little League

Gehr 14, Gibney's 8: Dylan Zimmerman had four hits for Gehr, while Chris McSherry had three hits and Shane Muldoon and Evan Coblentz each had two hits. Zack Sauble and Jason Hammond each had two hits for Gibney's.
