Lydia M. Keener, 92

JAN. 8, 1912-JUNE 17, 2004

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Lydia Marie Keener, 92, of 595 Old Hershey Road, and formerly of 12632 Karper Road in Mercersburg, Pa., died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Ruth K. Martin, with whom she lived.

Born Jan. 8, 1912, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Adam Martin and Susan Martin Baer.

Her husband, Eldad J. Keener, whom she married May 26, 1934, died April 13, 1988.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mercersburg Mennonite Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth K. Martin of Elizabethtown, and Lois E. Keener; four sons, Dr. Carl L. Keener of Helena, Mont., Dale L. Keener of Centreville, Va., Dr. Wilmer J. Keener of Hagerstown, and Dr. Dana R. Keener of Marietta, Pa.; one foster son, David L. Frye of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Ruth Torkelson of Tilley, Alta., Canada, and Miriam Eberly of Fayetteville, Pa.; three brothers, Mervin Baer of McBride, B.C., Canada, Harry Baer of Dunster, B.C., Canada, and Nelson Baer of Abbeville, S.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.


Viewing will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Mercersburg Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

Memorial services will be Sunday, June 27 at 2 p.m. at Mercersburg Mennonite Church. The Rev. Allen Eshelman and the ministerial staff of the church will officiate.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercersburg Mennonite Church, 10060 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, PA 17236; or Heralds of Hope Inc., HCR 64, Harrisonville, PA 17228.

John J. Shank

DIED JUNE 18, 2004

BOONSBORO - John Joseph Shank, of Boonsboro, died Friday, June 18, 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Kathlena June Shank; two children, Daniel Shank and Cynthia Aiken; four stepchildren, Kathlena Kovalchick, Margaret Paris, Sondra Bishop and Patrick Green; one sister, Eleanor Kovack; two grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Maxine Shank-Brown.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, Silver Spring, Md. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kristopher J. Currier, 24

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Kristopher J. Currier, 24, formerly of Martinsburg, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Harrisburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 31, 1979, in Baltimore, he was the son of Benjamin J. Currier and Linda VanMetre Hackett, and stepson of Robert Hackett of Martinsburg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Lisa M. Younker of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Angela D. Miller of Martinsburg; one brother, Eric J. Currier of Camp Hill, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Oscar Motilal will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy M. Benchoff, 88

OCT. 1, 1915-JUNE 18, 2004

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Dorothy M. "Dot" Davidson Benchoff, 88, of 780 Joy Drive, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at her home.

Born Oct. 1, 1915, in Zora, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Edna Sprenkle Davidson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ennis Benchoff, in 1997. They were married June 24, 1933.

She was a 1933 graduate of Waynesboro (Pa.) High School and attended Waynesboro Business College.

She had worked at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing as a timekeeper.

She was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Greencastle.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, John F. Benchoff.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. Glen A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Washington Township, Pa.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

George H. Ropp, 93

JULY 14, 1910-JUNE 17, 2004

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - George Hamilton Ropp went home to be with The Lord, Thursday, June 17, 2004, at his home in Martinsburg.

Born July 14, 1910, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Harry Brown Ropp and Jane Elizabeth Ridgeway Ropp of Martinsburg.

George received his bachelor of arts degree in education from Shepherd College by attending summer and night school, and his master's degree in education from George Washington University.
