Player of the Year



Sam Weaver

Catoctin, Sr., designated hitter

Weaver set Maryland records for single- season home runs (11) and RBI (49) during a brilliant senior campaign, leading the Cougars to the state Class 1A final. She batted .576 and was 10-1 with a 1.08 ERA in the circle.

Sara Albright

Musselman, Sr., outfield

Albright batted .489 with three home runs, scored 30 runs and drove in 18 to spark the Applemen offense. She also was a threat on the basepaths, stealing 18 bases.

Allie Bohrer

Martinsburg, Sr., second base

Bohrer batted .392 with nine doubles, two triples and two homers to help the Bulldogs reach the W.Va. state tournament. She drove in 22 runs and scored 21.

Alecia Brandenburg

Catoctin, So., pitcher

Formed the area's best 1-2 pitching punch with Weaver. Finished 7-1 with a 0.92 ERA, allowing only 22 hits in 53 innings while striking out 79. Also batted .511 with 19 runs.

Rachelle Everhart

Chambersburg, Jr., pitcher

Everhart went 9-1 with a 1.37 ERA in the regular season, and she was just warming up. She's 6-1 with an ERA under 1.00 in 50 postseason innings.

Lindsay Hinton

Chambersburg, Jr., outfield

Trojans' leadoff hitter batted .407, scored 24 runs and drove in 15 as the table-setter for Chambersburg's potent offense.

Lauren Mills

Frederick, Sr., third base

Mills batted .380 with four doubles, three triples and three homers as the Cadets won the Maryland Class 3A West title. She drove in 17 runs, scored 16 and stole 14 bases.

Adrienne Munoz

Williamsport, Jr., outfield

Munoz was the fuel in the Wildcats' tank, batting .442 with five doubles, two triples and three homers while scoring 25 runs.

Jessica Ritchey

Greencastle, Jr., shortstop

Ritchey batted .425 with six doubles, three triples and four homers, driving in 28 runs and scoring 23 for the Blue Devils.

Kris Root

Greencastle, So., first base

Root blasted nine home runs, drove in 31 runs and scored 30 as the heart of the Blue Devils' offense, finishing with a .460 average.

Michelle Scales

Hedgesville, Sr., pitcher/

An ironwoman in the circle for the Eagles, Scales went 13-7 with a 1.55 ERA, striking out 175 in 135 innings.

Emily Swartz

Chambersburg, So., catcher

Swartz batted .481 with three doubles, four triples and six homers for the Trojans in the regular season, driving in 25 runs.

Susan West

James Buchanan, Sr., pitcher

West led the Rockets to the PIAA state tournament. During the season, she pitched two perfect games, struck out more than 230 batters and posted an ERA under 1.00.

Courtni Williams

Jefferson, So., utility

Williams batted .415 with seven doubles and scored 26 runs to lead the Cougars' attack.

Harvey Staver

Chambersburg

Staver guided the Trojans (25-3) into today's PIAA Class AAA state championship game, and will be seeking his third state title, the others coming in 1994 and 1997.
