In her talk, Crittenden will point out that women make up more than half of the electorate, 63 percent of the swing vote and almost 63 percent of the base Democratic vote. Although women's votes can influence an election, millions of unmarried women in particular are not politically active. During the 2000 election, 22 million unmarried women who were eligible to vote did not cast a ballot.

Crittenden is the author of "The Price of Motherhood: Why the Most Important Job in the World is Still the Least Valued." In the book, she focuses on a discrepancy between the economic value created by conscientious parenting and the economic rewards women receive for raising children.
