June 16, 2004|by SCOTT BUTKI

The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday approved a two-year contract with Educational Support Personnel Local No. 1 which contains a 3.5 percent salary increase, Donald Francis, director of human resources, said.

About 900 employees will be covered by the new contract, effective July 1, he said.

Among other changes, the contract increases from $750 to $1,000 the annual amount paid for employees who get career development, he said.

"It is one of the better ones we've had in a long, long time," Sheila Metzel, president of ESP Local 1, told the board.

"You deserve it," schools Superintendent Elizabeth Morgan responded.
